History of the Unseen Eye[edit | edit source]
Origins and the Dying Wish of Laviya[edit | edit source]
Through whispers and secrets, the origin of the Eye is rumored to have been created through the dying wish of a 200 yr old mage named Laviya. She had wished for her kin and those whose gifts ranged from the purest to the darkest realms to be able to see the gods as she had.
Laviya’s relatives spread word of her passing, and during that time beings could come and pay well wishes to the family in her home. What they didn’t realize was one being would come to steal from the deceased mage and claim she herself was the next great Mage as promised by the Gods.
Yori and the Founding of the Unseen Eye[edit | edit source]
Yori, an aasimar woman, would come to steal the grimoire of Laviya and start using her spells and rituals to connect herself with the gods, saying that these things had been coming to her since she was but a child.
By the time Laviya’s family figured out what was happening, Yori had already become a positive spectacle in the eyes of the lands around her, making it impossible to bring her down without them appearing as vain or trying to make a “good soul” look bad. With their silence, Yori would continue on her path of forming a group of those who truly could see and receive messages or gifts from the gods, while she herself couldn’t and wouldn’t.
Once there was a grand number of people who had joined her, she named the group The Unseen Eye and proclaimed it a sanctuary for all those who needed help.
Expansion and Regional Influence[edit | edit source]
As the years went on and her circle grew larger, she began to have her most trusted confidants go from city to town all across the region, beginning to build their own spaces for the Unseen Eye.
The group gained positive influence and became a point of interest for those curious about a connection to the gods through magic. This resulted in at least ten buildings across the region all dedicated to the Unseen Eye, along with a large and growing membership.
Succession and the Blood Pact[edit | edit source]
With Yori growing old, she would come to pass leadership on to her favorite follower: Edris Zaroo, an elvish woman, who had made a blood pact with Yori to keep this group going and keep her secret until her last breath.
This is where things would shift and ultimately lead to the demise of the ruse of the Eye.
The Reign of Edris Zaroo[edit | edit source]
Edris was greedy and power hungry and would do everything she could to keep power and make herself stronger. This meant being more selective about who she let in, giving titles to those who had shown immense strength and power, and using whomever she could to ensure her image stayed immaculate.
She would go on to use forms of torture to “teach” beings how to control their god-gifted abilities, and use those abilities against anyone who dared tell the truth of her and her dealings.
While she was the leader and had her select group of beings she kept close, there were still others in the group who truly believed and had genuine connections to the gods, using their powers for good (such as Peatro and Lairus), among others.
Those who worked alongside Edris were either never told the full truth and believed in her charisma, knew the truth and were as power hungry as she was, or in Osric’s case, were manipulated to an extreme, doing what she wanted to protect his brother and mother.
Osric, Adler LaRoux, and the Fall of the Ruse[edit | edit source]
That is until a newer member snapped Osric out of his disillusionment and showed him the truth. Adler LaRoux, a foreman, had been keeping tabs on the Eye for years and had infiltrated the group to take Edris down from the inside.
Why? Because he truly had seen the gods, and they warned of a charlatan who would lead the group further into the depths of depravity if not stopped.
Skeptical at first, Osric only came to believe this when Adler was able to connect him with a goddess who spoke of Osric’s past in a way he had never told anyone.
From there, the duo grew into a larger group and slowly but surely overturned the leadership of the Unseen Eye into what the group truly should be: a safe space for those with questions and confusion about why they connect with the unseen, and how to safely navigate it.
The Unseen Eye Today[edit | edit source]
In the last two months, all of Edris’s lackeys have fled in fear, and Edris herself is now on the run. Adler has tasked Osric with finding her and ending her, along with any other tasks he wishes to take care of in Ravel.
The goals of the current leadership of the Unseen Eye are focused on rebuilding their reputation and opening their doors to all who need it. Adler wishes to ensure that all that was tainted by the past is corrected, and that compassion and respect guide the future of the Unseen Eye.
