== About the Department ==
Early evocation mages at the school found a common thread between the breathing techniques necessary for proper casting form, and those necessary for projecting on stage or in song. Further connections between magic and performing arts, (such as the movements required for dance and the movements of element benders, or the hand-movements of instrumentalists compared with the somatic components of spellcasting) instilled that mages gifted in both divisions would teach potent and expressive cohorts of evocation mages.
== Traditions Among Majors ==

Reserving all practice spaces around the outer ring of the college for the middle of the night, and once a year loosing vertical cones of flame all around the University—triggering the fire detection claxons of every oncampus residence hall at once. This night remains constant each year, so getting woken from a dead sleep by the Evocation department and rushing onto the streets of campus only to find crowds of cheering upperclassmen is a tradition among first-years.

The evocation mages also sponsor a 24-hour devised performance festival in the fall, and an open variety show in the spring—the latter often lampoons notable on-campus incidents which took place during the academic year, and features performances by student bands.
