When Mechanus was constructed, it drew the attention of a being from the far realm known as [[the Nine-Fingered Worm]], a devourer of worlds. When the Nine-Fingered Worm arrived in Mechanus, it did battle with Mechanus' protector, the primordial construct Primus. In the battle, a piece of the Nine-Fingered Worm was cut away by Mechanus and banished into the deep ether. Over time, this cut away piece of the elder god turned into the realm of Limbo, and from its rotting flesh was born the first [[Slaad]].
