The Toverthi Restoration was a series of events in the early CR era, culminating in 12CR with the coronation of Empress Keiokki Troverth and the reformation of the Empire.
Historical Context[edit | edit source]
For over a millennium the Dynastic House of Troverth ruled over the first - and furthest reaching - Human-Led empire in Quelmar’s recorded history; garnering respect and fear throughout the BR era and bringing Humans to the forefront of the world-stage. A militaristic society dominated by honour-bound samurai and powerful lords, they were able to control much of Osugbo over the years. Through clever tactical prowess unseen before in the realm they managed to defy dragons and dominate demons alike.
The PR era however did not treat them quite so kindly. Despite vast swathes of territorial gains during the First Realm War in the opening years of the era, they had great difficulties holding that territory. The years following the war saw the realm wrecked by political infighting and uprisings from the populus. Before long their traditional homelands in Osugbo, including the Imperial City of Qiuxing, were no longer under their rule, and the dynasty was relegated to their recent acquisitions in Northern Amusa. This too would prove to not be long lived though as the Cavalry Rush of 390PR brought an end to the rule of the Emperor’s bloodline.
The seemingly final nail in the proverbial coffin came with the military council’s intervention in the Second Realm War. In an unfortunately familiar repeat of history, their military successes in the conflict were eventually undermined by civil unrest. A failed coup eventually led to civil war, fracturing the domain into squabbling provinces.
A New Era[edit | edit source]
The Fracturing of the Weave left the entire realm in turmoil. The infrastructure upon which most of the world was upheld had come crashing down, and for many this spelled the end. For the magic-shunning people of Troverth however, it meant an opportunity. It should come as no surprise then that the opening years of the CR era saw the rise of a charismatic figure with the surname Troverth, promising a return to the glory of the past. Whether her genealogical lineage truly descended from the great emperors of yore is uncertain, it was of no great concern to those humiliated peoples who saw a chance to restore their nation’s honour.
Keiokki first came to prominence as a journalist-turned-political-agitator in the industrial shipbuilding city of Metto. It didn't take long before her impassioned speeches tapped into the generational rage of the population, even gaining the support of the city's magisters. Over the next four years she toured her growing cult of personality across the region, aiming at uniting the broken nation into a great empire once more.
Many feared the risk of civil war erupting once again - a fear not aided by the zealous thugs flocking to her cause - however, through classic Troverthi cunning, political strategy, and careful statesmanship, Keiokki was able to convince all bar one of the provinces to fall in line with her cause. This time came to be known among her followers as the Harmonious Revival though her detractors would use less flattering terms.
In the 3rd month of the 12th year of the CR era, the first Empress of Troverth in 900 years was officially crowned and handed complete sovereignty over the Troverthi people.
Looking Forward[edit | edit source]
Within 2 months of her coronation, the Empress had already begun implementing her plans for centralised military reforms and mass mobilisation. The people of this newly reforged empire were intoxicated with purpose once again. Mines operated round the clock. Factories and shipyards began production of weapons, munitions and machines of war. Young men and women flocked to recruitment centres to enlist. New doctrines were theorised and trialled by the greatest tactical minds of the nation.
Within the year the still-independent southern province of Yotura would be the testing ground for the empire's latest toys. In a bout of foreshadowing the Empress’ forces marched on the city and demanded their capitulation. After the execution of their militia’s leadership, the city swiftly complied. With the core of their lands secured, plans could begin to be drawn up for the largest naval operation the realm had seen, as their eyes turned to the emerald jewel of their homeland.
